Stop The War On Germs

My family and I stayed home from church for the second Sunday in a row.  Are we going inactive you ask?  No, but for two weeks now my kids have had a cough and green runny noses.  We could've taken them to church.  Our kids could've been the ones to pass the sweet sickness along but it wouldn't be right because I get furious when our kids get sick from the kid who has the inconsiderate parents who thinks they have to go to church no matter if he's oozing green glop from his nose.  My sister-in-law works in the nursery and she said that people do bring in their kids to nursery and primary who have wet coughs, their noses are streamlining with green snot and are sneezing over every toy that our kids are playing with.  We all know how big the Primary Program is.  Every parent loves seeing their kids get up and say their bit and all the kids love to show off that they've memorized their part but please no matter how big a Sunday it is for you and for your family if your kid is sick, stay home!  We had a boy that threw up the day before at the programs rehearsal.  Do you think the mom knew he was sick.  I bet you she did but she wanted so bad for him to practice and be in the program that she didn't think about all the other kids she was infecting that came within a three foot radius of him.  Again I'm asking you, if your kids are sick, even if you feel great, stay home with them so we can stop this vicious cycle.  If you miss one, even two weeks of church the Lord will not punish you.  He knows your heart and that you want to go to church.  What is that you say?  You have an important calling you can't miss?  Well that's what substitutes and husbands are for.  If your husband has an important calling too take turns.  Switch off every hour if you need to.  There is no excuse for making other kids sick!  If you are a nursery or a primary leader I ask you to nicely reject kids that are sick.  Let the parents see that it doesn't matter how nice they look that day you wont let them stay because they can infect the other children.  Think about it.  It's plain selfishness! So I'm sending this message out via blog because I know how big blogs are in the Mormon community and I want this message spread like wildfire or faster yet, spread like germs.  Please pass this message along or one like it so my kids can stay healthy longer than two weeks.  On another note it's not just church.  School, play dates, even going to your friends' house, your friends and family will love you that much more for thinking of their kids.

Stop the war on germs!

Scatterbrained

So... I'm still here.  I've had my camera battery charger for a while now but guess what?  Now I can't find my cord to upload my pictures to my computer.  I specifically remember putting my cord some place that I wouldn't lose it.  A lot of good that did.

On another note my friend Julia just had her first baby boy, Zeke, a month ago.  On her blog she set up an online baby pool where you guess the weight, length, estimated time of arrival and in my case gender, because we're not going to find out till it comes.  Can you guess who won her pool?  YUP!  None other than yours truly!  So I thought it would be fun to set one up for myself since those baby tickers scare me.  Who knows, maybe I'll even have a prize for the winner!

ARGGHHH!

So I want to throw up!  I wanted to venture out and try something new with my blog and the first thing I did was change my template with blogger.  I thought I was previewing it but I had actually changed it.  Now all my widgets are gone!!  ARGHHH!  Kurt also thinks the background is hideous, which I like(I'm SO excited for Halloween) but it doesn't help that my lover hates it.  That's what I get for trying: change!

Don't Mind Me

This post is gonna be me complaining the entire time so like the the title says: Don't mind me.

First, this is my worst pregnancy!  I'm feeling better during the day but at night around 6 is when I start to feel really sick.  If I don't force myself to stay up till 11 to watch X Files I'll go to bed around 9 just to lay there.  Then, every other day I have these really bad headaches.  I hate taking any medication except for prenatals when I'm pregnant but they're so bad I have to take Tylenol.  Thank goodness it works though.  So I went to my Dr. yesterday and I found out I'm only 11 weeks and 2 days!  I thought I was 12 weeks already!  That put a big damper on my day.  The really sad thing with that is that I look like I'm 4 1/2 months pregnant for me.  You really do get bigger faster with the third.  There are probably people out there that would much rather have this pregnancy than theirs, and I know I shouldn't complain, but it's kinda hard when all you've had are good easy pregnancies previously.  Moving on, we were supposed to have our last garage sale today and be able to play on our last Saturday here, but Kurt didn't feel like having a garage sale today so we are doing it next week.  Which means that we won't be able to go to the water park next Saturday.  I can't blame him, because I know those days when you're just not feeling like doing something.  Plus Kurt is a very one way track kinda guy and for him to change his mind, well I want to let him know that it's okay to change your mind.  So again I'm sorry but we're not gonna be able to go to the water park on Saturday.  Moving on, we sold our car.  We're really happy to have sold it so soon but now we can't go anywhere during the day.  It was okay for a couple of days because Kurt still has his motorcycle.  So if I needed anything from the store he would be able to go and get it.  Today he got a warning from a cop because he didn't have any eye protection on and actually the bike's not registered and hasn't been safety checked but the cop didn't say anything about that.  So Kurt got scared and now he won't drive the bike around.  Again I can't blame him.  If he got caught and had to pay a fine or go to court after our date we're supposed to leave, we'd be screwed!  Just to top it off were watching the Disney channel right now and the Imagination Movers are on and I want to kick in the TV.  Anybody who let them have their own show should be shot.  So that's the end of my complaining for now.  If you've read up to here you're a trooper!

I wonder...

Hmm.... Does anyone really know what's going on?  I know it's been closed for a while but come on!  Don't you think they would've fixed it by now or be fixing it?  Read this if you wonder why I care so much?  Ohh and by the way, my friend did get a new job! :)

I {heart} Hawaii

You know how you bump into somebody once then you awkwardly bump into them again and again for the rest of the week?  Well that's been happening to me but with a saying, "It's Hawaii."  When people say this it usually connotes a negativity towards the islands.  And while some is true for example, humidity, rust on metal, the time mentality that some people have here, I feel very strongly that other ideas are incorrect.  Please know that I was never offended by any remarks a person had made, and that's not what my intentions are here, I just love them and my home so much that I want to share with everyone a couple of reasons why Hawaii is as good as they come.  I have a smile on my face as I'm saying everything you're reading just FYI. :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

First of all I want you to stop and look around where you live.  Besides the Native Alaskan's and Native American's, Hawaiian's are the only other Native ethnicity that are citizen's of America.  We must remember that they were an independent country that was overthrown.  How happy would we be as American's if another country took us over and we became the minority?  This could get messy so I'm not going deep I just want you to look through someone else's point of view.  On the other hand I firmly believe that the majority of local people LOVE haole's.  Any race can be racist.  I really believe that a lot of people who have felt attacked racially was the one being racist.  Kurt has worked at Turtle Bay for two years, lived in Hawaii for another and some of his best friends that he made were local.  On another tangent can you tell me that other places in the US don't have problem's with racism?  Hawaii is wonderful in this department because as a melting pot, the majority have learned to accept our differences and laugh when someone makes a comment.  I am Hapa.  Half Filipino half Haole and I think it's hilarious when people make jokes about Filipino's eating dog.  The skinny is we need to step back from ourselves and learn to love one another.  Even if we are being attacked we need to love our attacker that much more.

Last topic: Remember when you looked around?  Did you notice which part of Hawaii your living in?  Like any part of this country and other countries there are places that have better facilities, better restaurants, better homes, better doctors, better salons, better movie theaters etc.  Take a drive around the island and look for that certain place you don't think exists.  Because I guarantee it does you just haven't looked hard enough yet.  I'm not talking about looking for a specific store like Bath and Body Works, because you'll never find it (that is true we don't have a lot of specific things like on the mainland) but if you're looking for an authentic Italian restaurant or a great doctor, look further than your town.  Dr. Sarah Schutte was my doctor that delivered Brody and I LOVE her!  When I had Drew I vowed that I would fly back to Cedar City Utah to have my CNM deliver any subsequent babies I had.  Now I'm saying that with Dr. Schutte and I even have a friend who actually did.  My point here is that yes, Hawaii might not have specifics like dill pickle chips, sniff sniff, but look beyond a three mile radius of your house to find what you're looking for.  If you really can't find what you're looking for, than I am sorry that you drove around this gorgeous island for nothing. ;)

You know these were just a couple of things I wanted to share with everyone because I really don't want anybody leaving here thinking it's like a third world country. (No one's ever said that by the way)  I was born and raised here so I know I'm biased, but who's not when dealing with something they love?  For those who don't know, my family and I are moving to Korea in the near future and I'm depressed with the idea of leaving paradise.  I ask Kurt every single day, "Does Korea have (insert anything you can think of here, mostly toiletries)?" And still to much of my amazement they do have it, with one huge exception.  Kurt is scared that I'm going to hate Korea, that I'll point out everything that it's not instead of seeing everything that it is.  I can't blame him for his thoughts.  That's exactly what I did when living in Cedar City but now I look back and Cedar was a really fun place to live.  Sure southern Utah doesn't have a public beach access but it does have real free mountain camping with lots of wild life and beautiful sunsets.  I'm not going to do the cultural moving cycle with Korea.  Kurt learned this in his class, it's a real thing.  First is the honeymoon stage where your excited, next is the questionable stage where you think, did I do the right thing in moving here?  Then after is the negative stage where you find the many faults in the place that you're living, following is the realization stage when you realize this is where you're supposed to be and start to have fun, and last is the acceptance stage where you accept the place in your heart. (the names of the stages are not accurate)  To be honest this post started off to show people the good side of Hawaii to get you to the realization stage faster, but now I see that this post is more for me to say goodbye to my home in Hawaii and open my arms to a new country on our map.  I better love this place up before I move, and I invite everyone to do so as well, because in all honesty I don't know if we're ever moving back.

"Please just let me sit for a second"

I am worn out!  This is my mom's house where we're living until we move to Korea.  The house was built with a tiny kitchen and little storage.  Therefore putting things in any spot they can find.  Although it's a clean house, you can see it's not childproof at all!  This is no fault of my mom's.  She and her husband are busy and I understand when you get a free minute you just want to rest, but I'm constantly following Brody and Drew around putting things back where they got them and cleaning up the messes they leave behind.  I feel so bad because I'll sit them in front of the tv hoping they watch for more than a minute so I can take a break.  In our old apartment I'd have to turn off the tv but here, it's a new place and so much to see and explore.  Please don't get me wrong.  I love and appreciate my mom more than she knows.  I just don't know what to do.  We try to get out as much as possible but I never realized how much you have to stay home to schedule around nap and meal time.  Slowly but surely I'm childproofing as we go, like putting locks on cabinets and putting things away as opposed to up where they can still climb to reach.  I just feel like I'm intruding because we're not going to be here for long but then again we are here for long enough.  If anybody has any suggestions to get their kids' attentions away from clutter without having to move it please let me know.

"No sandwich for you!"

Eat Fresh. Live Green. Learn More.

For those of you who frequent my blog you might've read in my "Tag" post that I have boycotted a store called Family Dollar.  I had asked you to join my ranks in the protest and  I ask it of you again.  This time I am rallying against Subway, specifically in Laie.  I promise you this isn't an everyday thing that I have a beef with a company, but the employee's are in desperate need of your help!  I'm personally not an employee but the girl that I visit teach is.    She had worked and breathed Subway in Utah, then moved to Laie where she was hired as the assistant manger.  Shortly after her being hired the owners sold the company to a rotten couple.  They immediately started firing people by crossing their names off the work schedule without even telling them.  Then when the employees would call to find out when they worked next the husband would answer the phone and give it to the person I visit teach and she would have to bear the bad news.  This spiteful couple also demoted everyone, including my friend, by dropping them down to minimum wage and is making them work their way up.  They call her while she's off work to ask her what do for this, or how to do this.  She finally gave it to them and said that she's not going to tell them what do do unless they give her a raise.  They didn't like that very much.  The husband started telling her that if she wants a raise she needs to show them that she deserves one.  That he's saving the company and that he's the one that brought subway to the islands (she's doing some research) and the store in Laie was the worst he's ever seen.  My friend told me it was as good as the one in Utah before the malicious new owners came along.  They need her so they gave her a raise because on her days off  bread has been found undercooked and cookies have been burned. It's sad that they fired so many people because the crotchety wife is always working, acting as the subway nazi.  An employee came in to eat and was wondering why she didn't get her discount.  The wife said, "Do I look like Santa?  I'm not handing out free presents.  Next!"  Okay she didn't say "next" but she might as well should've.  The employees are scared to go to work, terrified that they might get fired and they can't quit for lack of jobs available.  My friend is crossing her fingers that she gets another job that she applied for.  Before my visiting teaching companion and I left her house we asked if there was anything we could do.  She said,
"Boycott Subway!"

P.S.  Did I mention that he hates Mormons?  I don't know if I did.  Did I?
