My Twilight Review

I dragged Kurt to see Twilight with me and here are my thoughts.  If you haven't seen the movie yet you may not want to read this.

Going to the movie I had no expectations.  I LOVE the book but I knew from feeding of Stephenie Meyer's website that the movie was going to be different.  I was totally okay with that.  It's so rare to find a movie derived from a book, that's kept all the scenes the same.  I was not going to let myself get hyped up over small changes.  However, with Rob Pattinson, whom I loved in Harry Potter and was actually excited for him to be Edward, and Kristen Stewart, whom I love in her movies, as Bella I did not expect the acting to be so horrible!  There was a part at the end of the movie when she was in the hospital, stuttering, not wanting Edward to leaving and her acting job was so bad that the audience was laughing.  We were actually laughing at the times that weren't funny just because the acting was so awful.  Then, then, two thumbs WAY down for the directing.  There were times in the beginning where I thought something was wrong with the directing, but I let it go.  But by the end of the movie it was so well pronounced that again Kurt and I were laughing when we weren't supposed to.  For example, at the Prom, Edward went inside and left Bella on the bench.  The next shot was Jacob Black coming out from behind a tree and practically said her name before seeing her.  Again at the prom Edward and Bella went outside to a Gazebo to dance where there were two other couples and it just so happens that as soon as they walk out there the couples leave.  I know these are things that should be over looked but it's so completely obvious that the director should have caught how poor the scene was.  Apart from the second rate acting and directing I did find a couple parts funny enough to laugh out loud.  Like when Bella came into the classroom and she walked in front of the fan.  Edward made a face like she stunk, that was hilarious.  Charlie and his shotgun was funny, and I liked Emmet thinking she was Italian because her name was Bella.  Overall I don't know what their budget was on this film but I've seen independent films with a guaranteed smaller budget but with blockbuster results.  I really wanted to enjoy this movie but after seeing it I was embarrassed.  The kind of embarrassed where a loved one is on stage singing way off key and all you want to do is hide your face.  This opinion of mine is solely based on the movie itself.  Not of the book made into a movie but the movie as if I've never read the book and from the trailers, actually thought it was going to be good.  And again it's just my opinion.

That's funny!

Those were all things i noticed and snickered at in the movie too!! and i too was hiding my face at parts!

BUT I REALLY ENJOYED IT!

There was so much sexual Tension in that movie that I think it needed the Cheesiness (whether they meant it to be or not) to cut some of that incredible tension!

We were all put off by Bella's twitches, and the scene in the hospital! hahahaha

SO FUNNY!

I figured it wasn't going to be good. I started to read the reviews and couldn't find a good one so I figured I would probably wait to rent it. Hey at least you got a date out of it though.

I agree 100% I was pretty disappointed. I had high expectations and wanted it to be just like the book. I guess it was my fault having those expectations. I hate when people in the theater laugh at serious parts, but this movie I was totally one of those people. Maybe the next movie will be better...

I totally agree with what you're saying! I had read all the books in a whirlwind weekend, and enjoyed them quite a bit but when my hubby took me to the premier...i was soooo embarrassed sitting next to him! I mean, he couldn't make it through the first chapter, and now i have to sit through this super cheesy film. the acting was totally horrific! i couldn't tell if the audience agreed with me or if they were a bunch of bumbling little girls that just giggled every time Edward opened his mouth to say something! *Cheers!*

it was OK. it wasn't as awesome as I thought it would be but it didn't feel like a complete waste of time either. There were some parts though that I was like..what?! anyway. books are so much better than movies!

I couldnt have said it better myself. I tried to go in not thinking about the books and I think I did a good job. But you were so right... the acting was horrible. I thought Robert/Edward was the worse! Some of his serious facial expressions were so funny that I to was cringing into Mike's shoulder. It was so bad, the theater was laughing so hard at parts that shouldnt be funny. The guy who played Charlie did a good job though. Everything else sucked. I heard its better the 2nd time through and so I am going with my sis-in-law to see it again, so I'll let you know

I knew if I checked your blog you might have a movie review! It was just too low budget, it was a $37 million budget and it made $70 million opening weekend, compare that budget to james bond which was a $200 million budget, I heard that Stephenie Meyer wouldn't sell the movie rights to other higher budget studios because they wanted to change the movie too much, I really wish she had made a different decision, hopefully with the next one they'll get some more money and fix the horrible make-up and directing! My movie theater was laughing as well at the bad acting and cheesiness that wasn't supposed to be funny!

i knew this was going to happen! that is why i haven't seen it. First I heard kristin stewart on an interview and she had NOOO personality what so ever. I didn't think Edward was hot at all. The movie was made in less than 3 months with a small budget so i figured it couldn't be great with the special effects...so for now I won't see it because i dont want to be disappointed! I'm so nervous!

Funny... I knew you'd have a review too :)
I haven't seen it and was waiting for it to come to the dollar theater. (Which might be really soon according to all the reviews!) So is it going to be worth my $1??

I just laughed reading your entry. I knew you wouldn't like it. I remember seeing Harry Potter 1 and I was like 'it's O.K. movie, I guess . . .' while Jared was upset. (I didn't read the book before the movie and Jared did.) Then they got bigger budget each movie that by third movie it was pretty good. I hope that same thing would happen with Twilight series, so I'm hopeful.

I should have read you review before we went... I had a great time because I was with my gilrfriends... but we laughed through the WHOLE movie! and not just snickering... but laughing out loud!...I think we were trying to get our $8 worth!!!! They should take the profits and do a remake...(and here's a concept) but do it using the thoughts of Edward instead of Bella! LOL!

Thats really funny what Keiko said. Cause Mary and i went and saw it and we both said OK. We know Erin and Noelle won't like it!
I have to admit. I really liked it! I did notice the prom dance part and smiled at the really obvious exit but I din't care to much. There were other things too. It was (no question) low budget. But they did a great job staying to the book. I loved the funny faces and felt like I finally understood why Edward and Bella just HAD to be together.
Did you see Stephanie Meyer get her spinich salad in the diner?

Ok I had to check and see what you thought of the movie. I didn't know if I was the only one that thought it was bad! Everyone I talked to liked it. I felt like maybe I was just missing something because I thought it needed some help! I even went to see it twice to see if that made me like it better. Nope! Make-up on Carlisle in the hospital was horrible - you could see a complete line on his neck! Acting was just sad! The music wasn't doing anything for me either it just felt wrong. It was like a made-for-tv movie. Special effects were super cheesy. They reminded me of superman on tv. Meadow scene was definitely all wrong too. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought it needed some help. I had to see what you thought! Congratulations on the pregnancy! I'm right there behind ya Ü
